Luttrell Sends Letter in Support of Governor Abbott’s Border Fight
WASHINGTON – Congressman Morgan Luttrell (R-TX), along with 23 of his colleagues, sent a letter to Texas Governor Greg Abbott supporting his recent actions to secure the southern border and encouraging the Governor to continue holding the line against the Biden Administration’s efforts to undermine our national security.
The Members wrote, “Governor Abbott, we appreciate your resolve at this time and know you will do what is in the best interest of Texas. Please continue to use all the resources and constitutional authority at your disposal to enforce our border security. We will continue to stand with you against this foreign invasion enabled by the Biden Administration.”

Background:
In September, Border Patrol agents began to cut through and remove wire installed by Texas in order to apprehend migrants and reach injured people to assist them. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued in October 2023, stating that federal agents had unlawfully destroyed state property.
On Monday, January 25, 2024, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that federal border agents can remove razor wire fencing installed by Texas along the Mexico border, vacating a Fifth Circuit order that the Biden Administration argued led to the deaths of several migrants. The Court’s decision allows Border Patrol agents to cut concertina wire that Texas had installed along the border near Eagle Pass while litigation continues.
Governor Abbott has ordered the Texas National Guard to enhance border defenses, including the installation of additional razor wire along key border crossings. He has stated that President Biden is in violation of federal law as he refuses to enforce immigration statutes already on the books, adding that he is giving "mass parole" to foreign nationals who illegally ingress into the United States.
