Congressman Morgan Luttrell Releases Statement on The Protecting America's Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act
WASHINGTON – Congressman Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) released the following statement on The Protecting America's Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act.
“The Biden Administration’s anti-American energy agenda stamped out our energy independence and boosted our reliance on foreign oil, sending prices through the roof,” said Congressman Morgan Luttrell. “We should not be selling emergency oil reserves to a geo-political adversary, especially at a time when our country is facing an unprecedented energy crisis.”
Background:
- President Biden has now drained America's Strategic Petroleum Reserves by 36%—the lowest level since 1984.
- Households are expected to pay the highest energy costs in 15 years this winter, according to the Energy Assistance Directors Association.
- The average price of gas is still up significantly from when President Biden first took office.
This legislation prevents the Secretary of Energy from selling U.S. emergency oil reserves to any entity affiliated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or any entity that intends to export it to China. Read more about The Protecting America's Strategic Petroleum Reserve from China Act here.
