HURRICANE BERYL UPDATE JULY 10, 2024:
The phones in the Polk County Emergency Operations Center were restored late yesterday afternoon. Highline was able to bring their facility back onto generator power.
Emergency Management has requested commodities (MREs, Water, Ice) from the State for distribution to the public. We do not have an ETA on arrival at this time. Many impacted counties have requested commodities, and the State is doing its best to serve each county.
Electric Service providers have communicated to Emergency Management that they are working to restore power; however, Hurricane Beryl has caused significant damage to infrastructure, and a timeline for restoration is unknown at this time.

Just remember that with the devastation that we are seeing after Beryl has left in its path, comes the bad actors -- folks who are after your hard earned money. With that in mind, here are a few things to consider.
1. Don’t pay for work to your home in advance. If they don’t have the money to buy the materials in advance use a different contractor!
2. Make sure you verify they are licensed and insured in Texas.
3. Be wary of people asking for help due to their circumstances. Confirm they are who they say they are. Donate to organizations that can help people in need.
4. Be careful of people selling things online needed in this emergency such as generators. If they ask for money in advance to hold the item before you can physically look at it, don't pay them.

HURRICANE BERYL UPDATE, JULY 8, 2024:
Hurricane Beryl made landfall this morning (7/8) bringing 50 – 60 mph winds and one to three inches of rain.
The City of Houston has informed my team and I that flooding is expected in multiple low – lying and bayou areas, and the city has positioned high water rescue vehicles in areas most at risk of severe flooding. The fire department has conducted 23 water rescues and the police have conducted two.
Additionally, there are currently 1.8 million residents without power. Drinking and wastewater facilities are running on backup power. Although there is some sewer overflow from the flooding, the city expected this, and so as of now, water remains safe to drink.
Both 911 and 311 are working with no delays to response time. The city has asked residents to call only for life and safety events.
