Luttrell Introduces Legislation to Consolidate Global Entry Appointments for Minors

October 20, 2023

WASHINGTON – Congressman Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) introduced H.R. 5969, the Improving Travel for Families Act, which would allow children ages ten and under who are not a member of Global Entry to go through the Global Entry lanes with their parent or legal guardian who has Global Entry membership. Further, it would also improve the efficiency of Global Entry interviews by allowing a parent or legal guardian to schedule a single appointment for a Global Entry membership interview for up to four children.

“As the holiday season approaches, I’m proud to introduce the Improving Travel for Families Act that will provide more flexibility for families traveling with children internationally,” said Congressman Luttrell. “While TSA PreCheck has adopted measures to allow children to join their parents in the fast lanes, Global Entry has fallen behind, creating a burden for families with young children. This common-sense legislation will improve travel time and consolidate appointments for those with children seeking Global Entry, simplifying the process for families, especially during busy travel seasons.”

Currently, children traveling with a parent or legal guardian who has Global Entry membership, such as toddlers and infants, cannot use the Global Entry lanes if they don’t have their own Global Entry membership. Additionally, at this time parents must schedule an individual Global Entry interview appointment for each child, creating a potential burden on families with multiple children. This legislation will allow for children to utilize Global Entry lines with their parents and for appointments to be consolidated for those seeking Global Entry for their children.
