Luttrell Sends Letter to EPA Addressing Cybersecurity Vulnerabilities

May 22, 2024

WASHINGTON – Congressman Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) sent a letter to Michael Regan, Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regarding the recent alert from the EPA on cybersecurity vulnerabilities at community water systems across the United States.  The revelations outlined in the alert, particularly water systems failing to adequately address cybersecurity risks, highlight the urgent need for examination of the current regulatory cybersecurity framework within our critical infrastructure sectors.

Congressman Luttrell writes, “The contents of the alert coupled with increasing cyberattacks against community water systems and water treatment facilities serve as a reminder that our critical infrastructure systems are constantly vulnerable to nefarious actors. We must bolster our cyber defenses and work with local jurisdictions in ensuring their capabilities will address ongoing cyber warfare. When it comes to cybersecurity threats, we must be adequately postured to overwhelm and out maneuver our adversaries. In light of these concerns, I urge your agency to thoroughly examine the implications this will have on our critical infrastructure sectors and what it means for the future of our national security.”
